Weekly Worship - September 24, 2022

Lake Chapala Baptist

“The keyword is ‘compassion’ and Jesus was the perfect illustration of compassion on earth.” That’s how David App, interim pastor at LCBC, began his user-friendly Sunday message last weekend.

“We all have opportunities to reach out to the community that surrounds us and try to nudge them toward the gospel. I want to give you encouragement to do that. I sense a real desire in the fellowship of this church to touch those who are living without Christ around you. And I know that the Lord is guiding and using you for His work.

“As a member of His kingdom yet living in this world, just take a moment to ask yourself: What am I doing for the Lord’s sake? Could there be an opportunity to make a difference?

“Is there some person who comes to mind right now? Then ask God to help you begin a meaningful communication with them that might eventually result in their precious salvation.”

Share memorable weekly sermons, uplifting music, and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom at 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Our feeding program collects non-perishable food items to donate to “Operation Feed,” which helps about 140 families in and around San Juan Cosalá. Donations of rice, beans or cash, which allows us to buy at bulk for the lowest prices to help feed even more families, is especially welcome. If you opt for a cash donation, envelopes marked “Rice” or “Beans” are available every Sunday. If you sign your name to the envelope, your offering will be recorded as a church donation.

Every donation or consignment you make to our resale shop, Todo Bueno, benefits the Outreach Ministry of St. Andrew’s.  Todo Bueno is desperately in need of workers. Each shift is only 2.5 hours. Todo Bueno is in Riberas del Pilar, just west of S&S Auto, open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information call Barbara Friesen, 331-016-0619.

Lakeside Presbyterian

This Sunday Carla Vanderploeg’s testimony with be called: “Bloom where you are planted.”

Carla and her husband Johan have moved more than 20 times, lived in four different countries and at least 15 different cities. They are moving back to Colorado after living here for 17 years and had an active role in our church life and the greater Mexican Community since day one.

Carla will miss her prison ministry most as she, Rebecca Roth and Sheila Poole have visited the women in Puente Grande Prison for at least 15 years.

Carla will share her faith journey, starting in a strong Dutch Reformed family where she grew strong roots in her upbringing by Godly parents, culminating in the 17 years she lived in San Nicolas de Ibarra where she felt so blessed with many opportunities to serve.

Service starting time is 9:30 a.m. for the English-language service and 11 a.m. for the Spanish-language service.

The live English service at Calle San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar, also streams each Sunday on Facebook at Lakeside Presbyterian Church-Chapala or at lpc-chapala.org.

There is coffee and refreshments after the service in the Narthex.

Unitarians

Sunday, September 25, the service will be a combined UU/Jewish Chavarah presentation to celebrate the Jewish High Holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Bryan Kaplan, Dee Dee Camhi, and numerous participants from the Chavarah will present the service. In an hour and a half, Chavurah Chapala and the Unitarian Fellowship take us from Erev Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur, using the iconic liturgy and music to help us individually and as a community as we recognize and forgive our shortcomings and, listening to the still small voice within, become at one with ourselves, each other and the universe in order to face whatever the new year brings. Whether you’ve attended High Holiday services for years or are experiencing them for the first time, we hope you will understand and connect to them in a new and profound way.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. In-person services are now available at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar. No reservation or masks are required.
