Until Wednesday Oct. 12, St. Andrew’s is offering classes on what it means to be an Anglican. In this class, newcomers will learn more about our Book of Common Prayer, how we pray, the sacraments we celebrate, the creeds, and much more. Rev. Michael Schirmacher and Rev. Moore will conduct the classes. Classes begin at 1 p.m. and a light lunch will be served. Our feeding program collects non-perishable food items to donate to “Operation Feed,” which helps about 140 families in and around San Juan Cosalá. Donations of rice, beans or cash, which allows us to buy at bulk for the lowest prices to help feed even more families, is especially welcome. If you opt for a cash donation, envelopes are available every Sunday. If you sign your name to the envelope, your offering will be recorded as a church donation.
Every donation or consignment you make to our resale shop, Todo Bueno, benefits the Outreach Ministry of St. Andrew’s. Todo Bueno is desperately in need of workers. Each shift is only 2.5 hours. Sunday, October 2, Rev. Matt Alspaugh and Board President Kriss Gang will talk about “The Great Leap of Faith.”
“Leap like a lunatic. Over the chasm below Erupting as you go. Your true self awaits you and you will know.” These words by Minneapolis poet and artist Jane Evershed will set the tone for our annual service focusing on stewardship and giving. It is said a congregation’s morality is reflected in its annual budget. This is true, but in addition to morality, a congregation’s dreams and aspirations are equally present. This service will challenge you to think of what could be possible when we step out of the box of traditional budget planning and evaluate what we value most and whether we are willing to dedicate our “collective” financial resources to turning values and beliefs into actionable services and programming...a process that may just require a “Great Leap Of Faith.

It’s not always easy to identify our own shortcomings. Human beings are experts at self-justification. That’s why prophets are needed. Amos was a prophet who was very specific about the sins of the people of Israel—and we can learn from Amos what God desires from us so that we can be in a better relationship with Him.

Interim Pastor David App accomplished the seemingly impossible with his sermon last weekend: He spoke almost exclusively about suffering for Christ, and ended up making his listeners feel buoyantly hopeful.
“Scripture shows that man is born into suffering. That’s the situation we’re in. It demands a clear eye to see reality as it truly is, and it demands that Christians suffer for Christ’s sake, not our own.
“As believers, we’ve crossed over a line; we’re in God’s territory now. We must see that the godless influence is on the rise, so we need to be ready and devoted to meet the challenge of persecution, the inevitable reaction of evil to truth.
“God will comfort us in all our afflictions,” Pastor David continued. “Friends, taking part in the suffering of Christ is a high and holy privilege.
“So which side are you on? What world do you live in? Are you a genuine citizen of heaven on earth? I say, with the apostle Paul, ‘If this is the last day of my life, then Hallelujah!’”
