Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals Saturday, October 8, starting 2 p.m. on the grounds of Yves’ Restaurant. All are welcome to bring their animals to be blessed, and stay for lunch.
The church will observe the eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost, October 9, 10:30 a.m., in person and via Zoom at our location with the red door and windows next to The Smokehouse Restaurant. Rev. Linda Ramos will be the celebrant and give a message. The once-a-month Simple “Supper” Sunday Potluck will be held in the Church after the Service.

This week Pastor Wayne will talk about “Payday.”
I am always happy when payday rolls around. I always get an email notice that says, “Congratulations, you got paid.” But in the Book of Obadiah, the shortest book in the Bible, the payday is not one of celebration; it is a notice that the Edomites must give an account to God for their actions.
The Edomites lived in what is now the city of Petra. Millions of tourists flock there every year. The marvelous city is carved into red sandstone cliffs. When the prophet Obadiah warned the people, it was not as magnificent as it later became. Still, it was a protected city, and the people were arrogant in thinking they were safe.
The Edomites were descendants of Esau, and they had abused the people of Jerusalem, descendants of Jacob. Even though they were distant cousins, they were antagonistic with each other. Let us look at what Ovarian says will be their payday.
Service starting time is 9:30 a.m. for the English-language service and 11 a.m. for the Spanish-language service.

That’s was Interim Pastor David App’s opener last Sunday. The rest of his sermon was filled with biblical references to something we all need to keep in the forefront of our minds: God is always with us.
Woven through that overriding concept were convincing citations about how to be an effective leader. “Good leaders are also good followers,” he said, “and each of us is both follower and leader. Are we stable? Approachable? Followers of the Lord? When we’re alone in that secret place of prayer, do we listen?
“The Bible exhorts us to meditate day and night, to pray without ceasing… but how? Immersed in His word, we keep it in the forefront of our minds. Learn the scriptures. Keep them near. And remember God’s words: “I will never fail you or forsake you. Do not fear.”

If you sign your name to the envelope, your offering will be recorded as a church donation.

Sunday, October 9, the topic is “Grace Under Pressure.”
Ernest Hemingway once said, “Courage is grace under pressure.” Perhaps with this statement, he knew that courage covers more territory than the battlefield or the bullfighting ring. In this service we explore other kinds of courage, including the courage to say no. How do we make choices, how do we act, when external pressure pushes us in a different direction than that of our heart? How do we make peace with the outcome, even if it leads to pain? Rev. Matt Alspaugh will give the presentation and the service leader is D’Vorah Kelly.
Next week’s service on October 16, Barley Donahue and Sandy Wallin will present “Seeing Animals—Moving Toward Ethical Eating.”
