Shriner ribfests give help and hope to disabled kids

Ángel Paúl Muñoz Martínez was diagnosed with spina bifida and fluid on the brain at birth. Doctors at Guadalajara’s Centro Médico told his parents he had a slim chance of surviving a devastating congenital condition. Today, the nine-year-old is a bright and lively youngster with a positive outlook on reaching adulthood despite being confined to a wheelchair. His history is why he was chosen as the poster boy for the 19th annual Lake Chapala Shrine Club Ribfest fundraiser.

pg15aThis year, the popular BBQ grilled rib luncheons are once again scheduled for a double run on Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4, 1 to 5 p.m., both dates at the Villa Encantada events center at Avenida Hidalgo 312, adjacent to Parque La Milagrosa on Chapala’s western outskirts.

As in previous years, the sumptuous meals are being catered and served at the table by the staff of Adelita Bar and Grill.  The Blue Cadillac band will provide live listening and dancing music. Door prizes and a 50/50 cash raffle add more fun for sell-out crowds of diners.

Tickets for either date, priced at 500 pesos, are available from David Eccles at 33-1017-1724; Bob Howe at 33-1794-6316; any other Shrine Club member; and the O&A investment office at Centro Laguna.
