The paper

The newest place at Lakeside to buy the Guadalajara Reporter is at Terry’s Tianguiz located near Chapala at Hidalgo (carretera) 265B. It’s open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

British Society

Hard to believe but this is what went on at the British Society meeting this month. Fernando Serna Villa, professional dancer and choreographer and director of the Danza con Clase dancing academy in Guadalajara, partnered British Society member Paddy Andrews to demonstrate the salsa, danzon and cumbia! A great way to end 2011!

Holiday party

This year’s holiday party for the Love in Action Children’s Center still has a little space available for those who would get a kick (and who wouldn’t) out of spending some holiday time with kids while enjoying the atmosphere of a restored historic Ajijic home. Tickets are 1,000 pesos per person and are all-inclusive for the fantastic gourmet hors d’oeuvres, drinks and general good time. Because of generous donations to the event, all of the proceeds will go to the Love in Action Center.

Love in Action houses up to 63 kids from babies to 18-year-olds. The children have problems ranging from having been abandoned on the street to physical and psychological mistreatment; but today are secure in a loving atmosphere.

Go to liabenefit@aol for your tickets. In the meantime, check out the website at www.loveinactioncenter.org.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

“The more religious we are, the more likely it is that will miss the God who seeks to come to us.” That’s the message of this week’s sermon, “Religious? NO” by Father Winston Welty at St. Andrew’s this week. It’s based on John the Baptizer’s ministry of preparing the way for the coming of the Messiah. Agree? Disagree? Either way you’re up for a spiritual challenge at either the 9 a.m. or the 11 a.m. service. Don’t miss the time of welcome, refreshment and fellowship that comes between the services. The Church is located at Calle San Lucas 19. just a block south of the carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

St. Andrew’s Outreach Committee wishes to thank all the hard workers at last week’s Regalorama. They especially thank the many people of the total community who pitch in every year to help. Many Lakeside charities will benefit from the wonderful effort.

Christ Church Anglican

Christ Church Anglican Fellowship will meet, as usual, at Manix Restaurant, Ocampo 57 in Ajijic on December 11. They will celebrate the third Sunday in Advent with the Holy Eucharist Rite I. Father Danny Borkowski’s sermon topic is “Who Are You?” based on John 1: 6-8, 19-28.

Presbyterians

A Christmas Open House will be held December 18 at the home of Pastor Ross Arnold and Carolyn Hansen at Ocampo 200 in Ajijic.

All events (except the open house) are at Lakeside Presbyterian Church located on the mountain side of the carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.
Don’t forget about the amazing display of nativity scenes from the collection of Mary Alice Sargent open at the church from December 7 to 14 (except Sunday) from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
