Help feed the animals

Anita Strehlo of Anita’s Animals left her stall at the Wednesday tianguis last week after having taken in 17 puppies and four kittens. Nine of the puppies were too young for adoption and are now all under foster care. Fortunately, five puppies that were old enough were adopted at the market and the others went home with Anita. The surplus of dogs and cats never seems to end.

The monthly community pet food drive will be held Thursday, August 16, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Animal Shelter Pet Food store in Riberas del Pilar. The event occurs through the cooperation of Geoffrey Kaye of the Animal Shelter and representatives of Animal Buddies who will be there to help you. Your purchase will help the Animal Shelter cats, Anita’s Animals or your choice of animal rescue group.

If you can’t make it to the food drive on Thursday, you can purchase dog or cat food any time at the Animal Shelter and designate it for your choice of animal rescue group. The Shelter will hold your donation purchase for pick up (after you’ve informed your choice of animal rescue group about the purchase).

And don’t forget about all the baby animals being born right now…donations of kitten or puppy food will be greatly appreciated. Big trip

Fundraiser

The Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 7 has deemed their Wings and Things and Just Desserts set for August 27 at Post 7 as a fundraiser for Legion manager Victoria Schmidt. Schmidt must have surgery and needs it done right away. Her insurance requires that the operation be paid for ‘up front.’ She doesn’t have the substantial amount of ‘up front’ money required, so the Auxiliary will donate the monies from the event to Schmidt. When the insurance reimburses Schmidt, she will donate all the funds back to the Auxiliary Poppy Fund that helps cover medical and rehabilitation expenses for local area veterans and their families. Tickets for the event cost 100 pesos and are on sale now at American Legion Post 7, Morelos 114 in Chapala.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

If someone told you that you faith was sheer imagination, you might be insulted; but the fact is, without imagination, faith is impossible—or, at least that’s the case being made by Father Winston Welty at this week’s sermon, labeled “Surprised by the Sacrament.” Worship service at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church is 10 a.m. Sunday mornings. A time of fellowship, welcome and refreshment always follows the service. St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Presbyterians

With the abundance of life that God has created, why has God specifically called human life sacred? “Life is Sacred” is the topic of Pastor Ross Arnold’s message at Lakeside Presbyterian Church this Sunday, August 12.  Worship begins at 10 a.m. The church is located on the mountain side of the carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.
