The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) has announced that the next term of Spanish language classes will begin on Monday, September 3 and will cover seven weeks of study, ending on October 20. Hammers

Have Hammer…Will Travel, which provides training for young people interested in learning the woodworking art and trade, has moved from their village digs to the carretera at Hidalgo 110 in Riberas del Pilar. This move has allowed the classes to increase in size to 30 students and a need for at least four classes a week. The organization is seeking eight (or more) volunteers who can give two hours a week for a class.

They are also looking for sponsors for kids who can not afford the cost of the classes and materials. Sponsorships cost 1,900 pesos a year and can be shared between two or more people. The donation is tax deductible.

Jews

The Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation will hold its Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m. This annual event is an opportunity for Jews in the community to see what the synagogue has to offer and become members, and meet those renewing their membership.

Be there to share bagels, lox spread and all the fixing to remind you of your growing-up days at the deli. The congregation is a very active egalitarian, non-denominational congregation, inviting Jews of all backgrounds to become a part of this Jewish community.

There are benefits to becoming a member; the most important one being that members have free tickets for the High Holy Days services in September. The location of the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation is Sta. Margarita 113 in Riberas del Pilar.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Junk food leaves our bodies empty, unchanged, or, at best, fatter; but there is a spiritual junk food, too — the latest guru or religious fad, modern “gospels” that twist and distort the Christian message and leave our souls hollow, untouched or deceived. “The Hunger of the Heart” can only be satisfied with truth that is genuine, even when difficult, such as the words of Jesus from the Sixth Chapter of John’s Gospel, words that challenge us but also change us. It’s Part 3 in Jesus’ four-part series on the Bread of Heaven, and it’s part of the worship that begins at St. Andrew’s this Sunday at 10 a.m. This will be followed by a time of refreshment, welcome and fellowship. St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Located on the mountain side of the Chapala-Ajijic carretera near the Chula Vista Golf Club, the non-denominational Little Chapel by the Lake will hold a worship service at Sunday, 11:15 a.m. The speaker will be Tony Rojas from San Juan Tecomatlan presenting material about his last trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Interesting photos of his travels will be presented with the talk.
