Charity shop

The Upscale Resale Shop helps out two local children’s homes: Hope House with 23 boys and La Ola in Jocotepec with 14 kids (13 girls and one little brother).

The shop, located located in Riberas del Pilar, just east of Maskaras Clinic, is now back to its regular hours of Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The wonderful volunteers, donors, consignees and, of course, customers allow Upscale Resale to give substantial amounts of financial aids to both homes. Check out the website at http://shopupscale.webs.com. The shop regularly posts new items for sale on the Lake Chapala Society’s bulletin board.

Freethinking

The Lakeside Freethinkers, with a current membership of 55, will hold their regular third-Wednesday-of-the-month meeting on September 19. Members will discuss the purpose and mission of the group.

Atheists, agnostics, humanists and all others who reject belief in the supernatural are welcome to participate.

Donations

St. Andrew’s Anglican Church is asking for donations of clothing, household goods, tools, working electronics, gadgets, and anything else that is sitting around your house collecting dust or being neglected.

If you have not used the item or worn it in the past year, consider donating it to St. Andrew’s for the annual Regalorama rummage sale that provides funds to local charities.

Donations can be dropped off at the Church office at San Lucas 19 in Riberas del Pilar, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. If you need someone to pick up your donation, call the church office at (376) 765-3926. This year the Regalorama is being co-chaired by Steve Cole and Sylvia Stard.

Bus trips

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) has organized a bus trip to the Galerias Mall in Guadalajara on Wednesday, October 3. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the La Floresta sculpture and will return from the Costco area at 3:30 p.m.

The cost is 200 pesos. Sign up at the LCS table on the LCS grounds from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cruz Roja heads to the beautiful Andares Mall on Thursday, October 18. The bus leaves from the La Floresta sculpture at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 3:30 p.m. Sign up at the Cruz Roja table Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is 200 pesos.

For the critters

The monthly community pet food drive will take place on Thursday, September 20, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Animal Shelter in Riberas del Pilar.

This event occurs through the cooperation of Geoffrey Kaye of the Animal Shelter and representatives of Animal Buddies, who will be on hand to assist you. Your purchase through the Shelter pet food store will be helping the Shelter’s cats, as well as Anita’s Animals or your choice of any local animal rescue group.

If you can’t make it on Thursday, you can make a purchase of dog or cat food at any time. When you make the purchase, designate the animal group to benefit from the purchase and the Shelter will hold your donation for pick-up. Please let the designated group know that there is a donation waiting for them at the Animal Shelter.

There is still an extremely high volume of kittens and puppies needing a loving home this summer; so in addition to adult cat and dog food, consider purchasing kitten or puppy food. Thanks to everyone for support in feeding our less fortunate furry friends.
