pg16Royal Canadian Legion

The Lake Chapala Branch 182 of the Royal Canadian Legion invites all to a Remembrance Day ceremony commemorating 100 years since the end of World War I (1918-2018 Centennial Celebration), Sunday, November 11.

The event will be held on the property of the Hermanas Benedictinas de la Adoracion Perpetua del Santisimo Sacramento, Calle Jesus Garcia Norte, across from Panino Deli in San Antonio Tlayacapan, 300 meters north on the right, next to the football field. Guests should be seated by 10:30 a.m. A post-service luncheon and refreshments will be served.

Open Circle

Cindy Paul presents “Songs of Remembrance“ at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, November 11, 10:30 a.m., on the patio of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

On this Day of Remembrance, singer-actress Paul presents a nostalgic musical tribute to Dame Vera Margaret Lynn. Brits and Canadians will immediately recognize the name Vera Lynn, whose wartime hits, such as “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “We’ll Meet Again,” remain indelibly etched in memory. At the age of 101, “The Forces’ Sweetheart” is still inspiring the world with her grand spirit and rich, expressive voice.

What was it like to live in England during World War II? Blackouts, sirens, riveting Winston Churchill speeches, and Lynn on the radio. This tribute offers a glimpse of how Lynn helped pull an entire nation through the hell of war … and why we never want it to happen again. Cindy Paul is a well-known performer at Lakeside with a solid reputation of excellence.

Lakeside Freethinkers

At the next meeting of the Lakeside Freethinkers, the following will be considered: deceit, hope and the truth. The placebo effect is real, but, relies on deceit. What are the ethical consequences of deliberately deceiving patients when hope, albeit false, can improve quality of life?

The meeting is Wednesday, November 21, 4-6 p.m., at La Nueva Posada.

pg18bThe Lakeside Freethinkers define a “freethinker” as a person who is an atheist, agnostic, secular humanist, or skeptic. Freethinkers reject supernatural and other unsupported claims, and rely instead on reason applied to evidence to guide their lives.
