Entrepreneurship fair

The Lake Chapala Society and Miztli Bazar team up for a collaborative design, business and entrepreneurship fair (Conexiones entre Amigos), Saturday, May 4, from noon to 8 p.m.

Artists, businesses and unique, talented entrepreneurs will present their brands, products, and services in the categories of art and illustration, fashion and dress, accessories, pets, home design, jewelry, cosmetics, organic products, food and beverage, housing services and construction, medical, and therapeutic services and more.

Enjoy the flavors of typical Mexican food, desserts, and high-quality cuisine, folklore, art, culture, entertainment, raffles and conferences on the topics of entrepreneurship and business at Lakeside.

Open Circle

Pam Wolski will present “Metamorphosis: Surviving and Thriving through Environmental Illness” at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, May 5, 10:30 a.m. to noon on the patio of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

pg13aMultiple chemical sensitivity, sick-building syndrome, food/dental intolerances — these are just a few of the many terms that can describe Environmental Illness. Wolski will tell of her 30-year struggle against this condition, which began after several overexposures to toxic chemicals.

She will share how she learned to thrive instead of just survive, how she found true love along the way, and how she discovered the truth of the statement, ¨the greater the struggle, the more glorious the triumph.” Case studies, personal memoir and poetry will be included.

TED Talks

Neurologist V.S. Ramachandran presents “Three Clues to Understanding Your Brain” at the next Ted Talk, Tuesday, May 7, noon to 1:15 p.m. in the LCS Sala. Open to LCS members only.

Dr. Ramachandran tells us what brain damage can reveal about the connection between cerebral tissue and the mind, using three startling delusions as examples.

LCS courses

• Warren Hardy Spanish classes from May 6 to June 24. Several levels of instruction are available. Introduction to Spanish classes begin the second Tuesday of the month and run for three weeks from noon to 1:30 p.m.

• Ana Moreno will facilitate a cooking course titled Beans, Beans the Musical Fruit on May 6, 10 a.m. to noon at the South Campus Board Room.

• Wednesday, May 15, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., learn about Mexican manners with Alfredo Perez at the LCS Sala.

Insight Meditation

The Heart of Awareness Insight Meditation Community offers multiple opportunities each week for silent meditation: Sunday, 9 a.m., Wednesday, 4 p.m. and Thursday, 11 a.m. There are no fees and all sessions are open to the public. Chairs and cushions and brief written instructions on meditation for beginners are provided.

Sunday, May 5, the center is open from 9 a.m. until noon for three rounds of sitting and walking meditation.  Participants are welcome to come for all or just a portion of this extended practice period.  Additional meditation periods are offered Wednesday at 4 p.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m.

On Wednesday, May 8, the meditation period will be followed by a reading and discussion. On Wednesdays, individuals are welcome to come for just the meditation period (4-4:45 p.m.), just the program and discussion period (4:50-5:50 p.m.), or both.  The Wednesday session ends by 6 p.m.

A yoga class suitable for beginners and advanced students, is offered Thursday, 9 to 10:45 a.m.
