Lake Chapala Society Campus Committee Chair Larry Barnhardt and President Steve Balfour present “LCS AGM and Future Planning” at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.
The two LCS leaders will offer insights into the upcoming annual general meeting and solicit comments and ideas. The focus will be on where LCS was pre-Covid, during Covid and where the organization is heading.
Say Barnhardt and Balfour: “This is your opportunity to offer your thoughts on anything Lake Chapala Society.
People may not be aware that over 1,000 people per week visit LCS, and there are approximately 100 activities that take place in and around LCS each week.
“The board has been extremely busy for the past 726 days during Covid.
Prior to the pandemic, the board of directors unanimously approved an ambitious long-range strategic plan to help guide the work of the organization over the next ten years. This plan was initially presented to the AGM in 2019. While Covid may have caused a need to reset some of the goal timelines, the plan is still our northern light to keep us on course.
“As we strive to remain accessible, transparent, and accountable, we are providing regular updates regarding our vital work and accomplishments. These updates have been presented at each AGM since the plan was passed and we are publishing articles in our monthly Conecciones magazine as well.
We have special presentations that will be part of this year’s March 15 meeting.”
Música para Crecer AC
Música para Crecer AC supports the music school in the village of San Juan Cosala. While still happy and alive, the school is playing in a minor tone due to the pandemic, and needs to revitalize to keep growing. A fundraising celebration held in a private home will present some of the younger students, as well as graduates, singing and performing together with the Mariachi Real Axixic. Chuni and Juanpi Medeles will perform a guitar and violin duet, accompanied by singer Angela Morfin. The event is Thursday, March 24, 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Calle Emiliano Zapata 129 in Ajijic. A no-host bar, taquiza, raffle and auction are planned. Tickets, 500 pesos, are available at Art Coffee, La Churreria, Lake Chapala Society, El Granjor and by reservation at the door. Democrats Abroad
DA Lake Chapala continues its 9th annual Film Festival with films showing each Sunday, through April 24, 1:30 p.m. at Cinemagic in Plaza Bugambilias in Ajijic. Tickets are 150 pesos. Masks and proof of vaccination are required. All proceeds fund 2022 Lakeside U.S. voter assistance events.
Lakeside Freethinkers
This month’s Zoom meeting on Wednesday, March 16, 4 p.m. will be devoted to a discussion of the organization and future of the Lakeside Freethinkers. The Lakeside Freethinkers define a “freethinker” as a person who identifies himself or herself as an atheist, agnostic, secular humanist, or skeptic. They reject belief in the supernatural and rely on science and reason to guide their lives.

LCS Health Fair
Learn about health services in the area Wednesday, March 16, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Society Health Fair. Attend presentations by SkyMed, Oir Bien, La Pueblita, Hospital San Antonio and Riveras Medical Center.
Medications needed
Donations of unused medications are now accepted at the Delegación in Ajijic (building at the northwest corner of Colon and Ocampo).
SOS Dog Rescue
A silent auction will be held Sunday, March 20, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ajijic to support SOS Dog Rescue. Bid on art by Efren Gonzalez, Ken Gosh, Lizette Aguilar and other local artists, as well as locally made ceramics, baskets, other crafts, certificates from regional travel companies, restaurants, and hotels.
Meet the author
Have you read the books “Who Rescued Who: Tales of Street Dogs and the People Who Love Them” and “Who Rescued Who 2: MORE Tales of Street Dog and the People Who Love Them”? Written by local author Barbara Harkness, these are collections of stories about Lakeside people told by their dogs, and tales of how they found each other. Barbara, with her constant companion Luna (who rescued her), will be sharing some of these stories at La Pueblita Retirement Community on Friday, March 25, 11 a.m. A traditional Mexican buffet will be offered for this occasion for 230 pesos. Get your fool’s hat on
Fools are wanted for the 5th annual April Fool’s benefit dinner for Tepehua Centro Comunitario, Friday, April 1, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sunrise Restaurant in San Antonio. Wear a costume and win prizes. Cost of 450 pesos includes the choice of chicken fajitas, shrimp salad, chiles rellenos or hamburger and fries. Margaritas, beer and wine available, along with entertainment and lots of laughs.
