Its mission is to help Mexican families who require financial assistance to pay the ongoing and/or major medical expenses for their children. Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege, the group insists.

Poker Tournament

If you are a poker player around Lakeside, you probably met Norm Willner sitting around a poker table somewhere. Norm was a passionate poker player and a long-standing, well known member of the community.

To honor Norm and his many contributions to the people of Chapala, American Legion Post 7 in Chapala is holding the Norm Willner Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m.  This event is open to the public. The entry fee is 500 pesos, paid in advance. Each player receives 2,000 points in chips to start the game; blinds will go up every 30 minutes. Buy-ins of 500 pesos gets an additional 2,000 points equivalent in chips for the first hour.

Fifty percent of the proceeds go the Norm Willner Scholarship fund, 10 percent to the American Legion and 40 percent to be split between players with the most points in first, second and third place positions. There will be eight players to a table and seats are assigned randomly. A sign up sheet is located in the bar at the American Legion.
