Open Circle

The volunteers at Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption Center will talk about the work they do at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, October 9, 10:30 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption Center is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of abandoned and abused dogs in the Lake Chapala area. Lucky Dog is a no-kill shelter run solely by a group of dedicated volunteers, led by a volunteer board. Their only income is from private donations.

Lucky volunteers ensure the dogs are walked, fed and loved daily. Vet appointments, routine vaccinations, worm and flea treatments, and adoption services are also handled by volunteers.
Lucky Dog has expanded a lot since its inception in 2012, adding additional runs, a playing/training field, safety doors on the kennels, shade coverings for the play yards, and more.
Lucky Dog is its own entity and relies on private donations to cover costs. Services provided for the dogs include spay/neuter, emergency services, long-term recovery care, special foods and medicines and, of course, the loving care from volunteers. For most dogs the costs are low, but costs for injured or sick dogs can be much more, including surgery, other medical needs and the time and care required for healing. The current vet at Lucky Dog is Laura Medina Gomez, who visits weekly, and offers her time and services at a generous price.

Reservations are recommended on the LCS website opencircleajijic.org (click on Contact Us). Lake Chapala Society is located at 16 de Septiembre 16-a, Ajijic.

Vote From Abroad

Vote From Abroad can help you request and return your U.S. Election ballot. But it’s almost your last chance.

Visit us this Wednesday, October 12 at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Note: LCS will be closed this coming Monday, October 10.)

We strongly recommend that you return your ballot by October 12 at the latest—whether you can mail, email or fax it back. Remember, voting from Mexico takes more time.

If you wait, it could cost you a lot more—especially if you can only mail back your ballot (as 23 states require).

Whether you’re mailing your ballot or faxing it back, several local “shipping shops” such as iShop&Mail can help.

Finally, given new voting requirements in many states, it’s important to leave plenty of time to correct your ballot if needed.

Still need to request your ballot? Go immediately to VoteFromAbroad.org or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
