Open Circle

Four members of the Lago de Chapala Toastmasters Club will present “Facing Our Stereotypes Together” at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, October 16, 10:30 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

Two Americans and two Mexicans will discuss the stereotypes that exist about citizens of our two countries and how they distort and affect the relationships between our peoples.

Ajijic benefit food fair

Ajijic’s Pasión de Cristo and Manos Solidarios volunteer organizations are joining forces to put on a two-day food fair to benefit local families facing financial distress to provide health care for ailing relatives.

The Ajijic Nos Cuida Kermés will take place at the village plaza Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, October 16, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The families in urgent need of help will set up more than 20 stands around the square to sell a variety of foods and snacks. Music and dance performances will be on tap. Local barbers will be there on Saturday to offer grooming services to those in attendance, chipping in their proceeds to the event’s beneficiaries.

Chapala Birders

Tuesday, October 18, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet at 8 a.m. at the sculpture on the Carretera in La Floresta and at 8:15 a.m. at the Pemex at the intersection of the Libramiento and the Chapala-Guadalajara highway, leaving immediately for Lake Cajititlan.

Wine at LCS

The Lake Chapala Society will hold its sixth annual Wine Tasting event, Friday, October 21, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Unlimited wine tasting, appetizers and music by Abby Rivera. Tickets, 350 pesos general, 300 pesos LCS members, are available at LCS.

Noche Bohemia

The Rotary Club of Ajijic will hold a Bohemian Night as a fundraiser for polio prevention, Saturday, October 22, 6 to 10 p.m. at the Mexia Ranch, on the Libramiento. On the menu are drinks, dinner, great music, dance, fellowship and karaoke. Tickets, 500 pesos, available at rotarykajijic.org or at 332-968-9752.

Trivia to feed the soul

As part of its Million Peso Donation Challenge, FoodBank Lakeside will hold a Music Triva Night at Mama’s Musical Bar in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Wednesday, October 26. Get your team of up to six people together who know music from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, choose a name and buy your tickets. The cost of 300 pesos includes a meal, with options of spaghetti with meat or pomodoro sauce, pulled pork sandwich or Portobello mushroom burger.
