Tequila tour
The Centro Educativo Jaltepec and Tequila Reserva de Los Gonzalez invite you to their exclusive tequila tour for the benefit of the Centro’s students, who study in Lakeside’s only technical university in hotel and hospitality management. This tour is to a private, family-owned hacienda located in the Jalisco highlands southeast of Guadalajara and near Atotonilco El Alto. It includes transportation in a 15-seat luxury van, a tour of the facilities, a catered lunch, tequila tasting and refreshments. A maximum of 30 guests are allowed for each departure date. Chapala Birders
Friday, January 27, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet at 8 a.m. at the trail head to hike a mile or more up the Allen Lloyd Trail which has lots of underbrush in which birds love to hide. Expect to see blue mockingbird and hear the Happy wren—if you are lucky. At about 10 a.m. the group heads to Cafe Negro restaurant for breakfast and to complete the bird list.
How to get to the trail head: Drive up the Libramiento a half mile from the traffic light at Walmart, and park on the north side of the road next to the new hospital across from the Radisson Blu/El Dorado Condominium towers.
Bird walks are open to all those interested in birds, both beginners and experienced birders. Just bring binoculars. There are always have knowledgeable birders on hand to identify the species.
Aztec history course
Dr. Ted Rogers offers an 8-day, 8-hour course on Aztec History and Culture up to the Invasion by Cortez. Course dates are February 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28, 1 to 2 p.m. at the South Campus Boardroom.
This course will look at the cultures that predated the Aztecs, then the unification process by both conquest and commerce, that brought the Aztec empire into existence as a society that encompassed over five million people. Aztec art, mythology, cosmology, and day-to-day social life will be covered. Beginning with the cultures that laid the foundation for the Aztec society around 1600 B.C., the course finishes with the Aztec Empire just before the arrival of Cortez. Spay-Ghetti
Tails of Mexico presents its 8th annual Spay-Ghetti No Balls dinner, February 4, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Raquet Club. This charity helps keep street dogs to a minimum by offering spay and neuter clinics in Jocotepec. A silent auction begins 4 p.m.
Apart from the all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner including Caesar salad, garlic bread and dessert, there will be a live auction, live music and a cash bar and an amazing sunset view.

Ecology Fest
Chapala City Hall and the Movimento Ambiental Solidario (MAS—the new moniker of the Ajijic recycling program) are holding a Fiesta de Ecologia Sunday, February 5, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Parque de la Cristiania in Chapala. Along with ecology education and lectures, there will be exhibitions, a silent auction, food and drink vendors, children’s programs and entertainment, music and a mariachi band. Free admission.

Legacy Celebration
Los Cantantes del Lago is holding a celebration to honor Timothy G. Ruff Welch and his legacy of 21 years as music director of the choir, and also in appreciation of the singers and others who have given their time and talents to this musical organization.

Mel’s Casa Social is holding a Super Bowl party Sunday February 12, beginning 4 p.m. A pool is on with charity squares board, a charity 50/50 draw, free tequila and beer tasting, free giveaways, three TVs and a 30-peso happy hour.

5K race in Joco
Jocotepec City Hall and the Colegio Antonio Palomares sponsor a 5-kilometer run Saturday, February 18. Categories are Males over 16; Females over 16 (inscription fee: 250 pesos). A 2-km race is offered to 11 to 15 year olds, mixed (fee: 150 pesos) and a 200-meter race for 6-10 year olds and a 100-meter race for 3-5 year olds (fee: 120 pesos). Each racer will receive a runners kit, hydration and a medal. Prizes for the 5-km run are 2,000 pesos for first; 1,500 pesos for second and 1,000 pesos for third. A prize will also be given to the first three places in the 2-km race.
