Polarization leaves many people tired, guarded or disconnected. Scott Grace, a speaker, author and musician who has presented internationally since 1993, explores how shared humanity can soften division. Blending humor, storytelling, poetry and music, attendees will experience a refreshing alternative to political debate — one that encourages reflection, connection and relief from polarization.

Chapala Birders
• On Tuesday, February 10, enjoy a rare opportunity to head out with John Keeling. Meet at 8 a.m. at the “Sculpture” at the only traffic light in La Floresta, leaving immediately for the Sierra de Tapalpa (90 minutes away). The group will bird from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Expect to see higher altitude birds such as acorn woodpecker and slate-throated redstart and, if lucky, the trans-volcanic jay. Bring your own snacks and refreshments for the morning. At 1 p.m., the birders will have lunch in Tapalpa at a restaurant overlooking the square. Expect to be back by 3:30 p.m.

• Wednesday, February 18, meet team leader Duncan Poole at 8 a.m. at the “Sculpture”, leaving immediately for a morning trip to Lake Cajititlan, with a few stops before reaching the lake. Expect to see various waterfowl, including wood storks, white-faced ibis, white pelicans and ducks. Also along the journey, you may see American kestrels, hawks, grassquits and a variety of songbirds.
