Open Circle
David Ellison presents “Heroes of Gay Liberation” on Sunday, June 28, 10:30 a.m. at Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society.
As with most civil rights movements, many people risked and struggled for many years, displaying uncommon courage and astounding perseverance. Ellison will share some of their inspiring stories. This talk will be fascinating to anyone who likes to uncover suppressed history and learn about new, inspiring heroes.
Ellison M.A. was an award-winning teacher and school administrator for 36 years.
Canada Day
• The Canadian Veterans Support Association hosts its annual Canada Day party, July 1, 2 to 5 p.m. at El Pilar Bistro, Carretera 261 in Riberas del Pilar. Music will be by the Crooners Blue Cadillac. July 4th celebrations
• The American Legion in Chapala has planned a day of activities and food for its July 4th celebration between 1 and 9 p.m. The meal is a buffet by Rangers BBQ with ribs and brisket, corn on the cob, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, rolls and dessert for 400 pesos. Pay at the door.
• Jorge’s Place will put on an American buffet from 2 to 6 p.m. with BBQ ribs, hot dogs, mozzarella sticks, French fries, onion rings, potato salad, macaroni salad and three drinks. Live music by Old Souls Band. Tickets, 500 pesos, available at Carretera Pte. 36 in Ajijic.
Run ... then tacos and beer
Enjoy a five-kilometer run or walk along the Chapala Malecon at the Tacos n’ Beer 5K Saturday, July 4. Running kits will be handed out from 6:30 a.m. at the Gloria de Jesus Pescador monument. Anavets Mexico Unit 19 is looking for dart players for a new league scheduled each Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., beginning July 7 at Mama’s Musical Bar in San Antonio Tlayacapan.
