Love & friendship abounds on February 14

Few people in Mexico refer to Valentine’s Day as Dia de San Valentin; most prefer the commonly used Dia del Amor y la Amistad (Love and Friendship Day), which is popular throughout Latin America.

The day is a boon for flower, balloon, chocolate and card (to a lesser extent) sellers, as Mexicans love to hand out gifts on this day.

Flower stalls will be stocked to the brim, particular with roses, which usually sell between 10 and 20 pesos each.

Restaurants will be doing a busy trade too; it’s best to make a reservation at popular eateries, if you can.
