Barra de Navidad & Melaque Journal - November 24, 2018

Asian flavors

Meet Julio Cesar Bautista Rosas, owner and head chef at The Wok Place in Melaque – a new restaurant inspired by Vietnamese and Thai cuisine that uses fresh, local ingredients.

pg31bpg31aAfter spending most of his life in Cihuatlan and Colima, Bautista travelled across Mexico and ended up in Playa del Carmen, where he found himself working at a hotel restaurant cooking Asian-inspired food. He quickly fell in love with the flavors, textures, colors and aromas of the food.

After a couple of years, he made his way back to the Pacific coast to assist in his mom’s loncheria in Melaque.  He then opened a small taqueria of his own but felt something was missing, so he started making pho on Sundays – a bit at a time and selling out fast.

The requests continued and this season Bautista has opened his own restaurant across from the Melaque bus station, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.  You can also order pick up at 314-148-7112.

Bautista’s wonderful personality shines through in his customer service and attention to ingredients.  His menu includes curries, green papaya salad, lettuce wraps, pad thai and Vietnamese rolls.  There is plenty for vegetarians to rejoice about, as Bautista has fabulous options which include tofu and handmade dishes to order.
