North Banderas Beat - November 20, 2021

Folks visiting the north bay, in my perception, fall into three categories: sun worshippers embracing pool time all day long, foodies who delight in all things Mexican, and music lovers eager to dance the night away, whether to flamenco, world music, jazz, bossa nova, rock ‘n’ roll or all the above.

pg21aSome folks enjoy all the above, as well as the artisan mastery that locals create.

International song stylist and jazz vocalist, Armi Grano, has owned and operated Encore Restaurant & Lounge, together with husband John, since 2009. This is a popular destination in Bucerias, recently reopened in grand style with a new chef and menu. Chef Jose Luis and his team served us the most luscious pork chop and chicken meals last week. The restaurant has undergone eye-catching renovations and Armi says it is hoped that “everybody will like what we’ve done to the place.”

Throughout the season there will be featured all-star jazz bands and special performances by Armi on vocals.  Every Saturday, Gerry Palken and Armi will be doing their Great American Songbook. After almost two years with a scaled down operation due to Covid restrictions, the management of Encore is optimistic that this season will start the long-awaited recovery for businesses. Encore has put a special emphasis on helping musicians and artists who have been unemployed and overlooked during these hard times. A series of shows featuring different musicians and bands, will be presented and hopefully everyone will support them. All shows start at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Voluntary cover charge.
