Daubers Ready

Bingo at Nacho Daddy Restaurant & Bar at Basilio Badillo 287 on the south side of Puerto Vallarta supports two local charities: Pasitos de Luz and the Colina Spay and Neuter Clinic.

Bingo night will be every other Wednesday throughout the winter and spring seasons.  Card sales begin at 5:45 p.m. and the first game of each night kicks off at 6 p.m. sharp. You get a strip of three cards for all the games for a donation of only 100 pesos. New this year is a Cash Blackout game, which is where you can buy as many extra cards as you want for the blackout game to increase your odds of winning the big cash prize.

Here’s the 2014-2015 Charity BINGO Schedule: November 12 & 26, December 10 & 23, January 7 & 21, February 4 & 18 and March 4 & 18.

Remember that 100 percent of all monies raised from the games will help support Pasitos de Luz, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving neurologically handicapped children from economically disadvantaged homes in the Puerto Vallarta area. They will split the pot with the Colina Spay and Neuter Clinic, which provides these services for free to Banderas Bay area pet owners who cannot afford a vet.

Celebrate Culture

The inaugural Mariachi PV Fest runs from November 20-22 and includes a range of fun for everyone, not just wonderful music.

Thursday, November 20, 8 p.m.: A free event at Los Arcos on the Malecon, across from the main plaza, including performances by two of the best mariachis in the city, a folk dancing demo, floreo de reata (rope twirling), fireworks and tequila tasting.

Friday, November 21, 8 p.m.: Performances by four outstanding mariachis, a Mexican buffet dinner, a bottle of tequila and first corkage plus dancers, fireworks, rope twirling and more tequila tasting. Plaza de Toros La Paloma, one block north of Galerías Vallarta shopping mall.  450 pesos.

Saturday, November 22, 8 p.m.: A three-course gala dinner (BYOB, corkage included), performances by four mariachis, dancers, fireworks, rope twirling and more tequila tasting. Oscar’s Restaurant on the Rio Cuale on the ocean just north of Molino de Agua condos. 650 pesos. A package price of 900 pesos covers both events. Tickets are on sale at El Toro Marisquero Restaurant at the Plaza de Toros la Paloma.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit El Centro de Atención al Sordo, a private non-profit organization in Puerto Vallarta that helps young, deaf people and their families by teaching them sign language. Find more info at www.MariachiPVFest.com.

Epic Food

The 20th Festival Gourmet runs November 13-23 and takes place in Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta and Punta Mita. Close to 30 restaurants are participating and each is hosting a guest chef for the event.

Kaiser Maximilian restaurant is featuring Chris Bradley from Untitled Restaurant in New York City. “This is my first time in Puerto Vallarta,” says Bradley. “I am excited about checking out all the fresh, local ingredients, especially the seafood and working with the team at Kaiser Maximilian.”

His cuisine at Untitled is described as upscale diner food with contemporary flair and farm-to-table cuisine. Untitled serves a seasonal, all-day menu featuring updates on coffee shop classics which are all made with carefully sourced, local ingredients such as freshly baked breakfast pastries, eggs and omelets, pancakes, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees. Untitled is proud to feature artisan ingredients and products from local sources.

The Chef’s Theme Night, New York, New York will feature classic foods from that city with a twist. It will be on Tuesday, November 18, starting at 8 p.m. There will be a six-course meal with wine pairings for each course and the cost is 1,200 pesos. Variations on Lobster Newburg, Waldorf Salad, Delmonico Steak, General Tso’s Chicken and of course New York Cheesecake will all be featured, along with other taste sensations. Some of the specials will become part of the regular menu at Kaiser Maximilian.

Tropical Turkeys

Just because you are south of the border does not mean that you cannot enjoy a traditional U.S.  Thanksgiving dinner. Many restaurants are serving this special meal so there is no cooking involved on your part.

Daiquiri Dick’s restaurant at Olas Altas 314 on Los Muertos Beach is not only offering the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, but also a whole turkey dinner to go. The dinner specials include prime rib, steamed mussels, dauphinoise au gratin, pumpkin tiramisu and others.

Blake’s, Café Bohemio, D’Z Route 66, Captain Don’s and Café des Artistes will all be offering Thanksgiving dinners along with many other restaurants.

Put down your apron and gather family and friends around a table filled with traditional turkey and not-so-traditional holiday food and enjoy a tropical Thanksgiving.

Green Thumbs

The Vallarta Garden Club kicks off its season with Krystal Frost, founder of Organic Select, an online Farmer’s Market, as its speaker. Frost is one of the most knowledgeable people in Vallarta to ask questions about nutritious food, how to shop, what to look for, what to avoid and how to grow it. She’s a long time resident of Vallarta and has a resume ranging from cosmetic acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, nutritional counseling, and now farming. Social Venue

ExPats in Vallarta is an informal group that can lend assistance to expat residents or visitors living, working, investing or considering a move to Puerto Vallarta. There are around 200 in the group. They organize events at restaurants, host happy hours and even pot lucks at private homes. This is a great way to meet fellow expats getting used to living south of the border and everyone can share stories of their Mexican adventures.
