A Howling Good Time
Best friends can share a wonderful early afternoon at the 10th Annual Pet Picnic at Daiquiri Dick’s on Saturday, December 5, from 11 a.m.
There will be a pet costume contest, raffle, live auction and other surprises. The costume contest starts at noon, so be prompt. The event will wrap up by 2 p.m. or a bit earlier.
Tickets are 300 pesos in advance and 350 pesos at the door. They can be purchased at the restaurant, located on Los Muertos Beach, Olas Altas 314. Call 322-222-0566 for information.
The price includes a boxed lunch with a choice of sandwich, and a doggie bag for your buddy. Beverages and tips are not included.
Last year around 40 dogs turned up, and about double that amount of humans. The event is worth attending even if you don’t have a dog. It’s a great way to meet other animal lovers.
All monies raised are donated to PEACE Animals, a non-profit that conducts mobile, spay and neuter clinics in Jalisco and Nayarit. This grass roots program is offered free of charge and reaches out to people who cannot afford to pay veterinarians’ fees. The clinics run for three and a half days and the vets usually sterilize around 140 animals during that time.
PEACE Animals operates on over 4,000 companion animals each year. They have 501(c)(3) status in the United States with Banderas Bay Charities, Inc. (BBC Inc.).

Celebrating a Life
Artist Frida Kahlo turned her pain into her passion. Share the hardships and successes of this Mexican icon at “Siente Frida,” a dinner/theater/art show experience that also raises funds for the construction of Casa Connor at Pasitos de Luz.
The dinner and live performance take place at the Sheraton Buganvilias on Friday, December 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The interactive show focuses on four stages of Kahlo’s life, including a wedding scene.
Dinner includes raicilla samples, table appetizers of guacamole, salsa mexicana, refried beans and tostada chips; tlalpeño soup, chiles rellenos with sweet mole, dessert and flavored water. The hotel will sell beer, wine and cocktails separately.

Staff at Casa Connor help children with physical and mental disabilities lead a richer life by providing them with the therapy they require. In partnership with Pasitos de Luz, a day home supporting more than 120 children, Casa Connor is building a larger facility to meet demand, as well as provide overnight respite services and accommodation for volunteers.
Clear the Streets
Thousands of Puerto Vallarta residents will participate in the annual evening processions to Our Lady of Guadalupe church in the main plaza that begin on December 1 and run through December 12, the Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe.
The nightly candlelit pilgrimages are one of the area’s most celebrated traditions during the Christmas season. The streets are filled with music, a lively atmosphere, local foods and bright colors, as people make their way with gifts for the Lady of Guadalupe altar in the church.
The Virgin of Guadalupe is Mexico’s patron saint and is revered by Mexico’s mainly Catholic population.
Mozy Along
The South Side Shuffle street party has kicked into gear and will run every other Friday until April 1, 2016. The next one is on December 4, and takes place in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romantica on Basilio Badillo from 6 to 10 p.m.
This famous shopping street is filled with galleries, shops and boutiques that offer everything from fine art and Mexican pottery to folk art, jewelry and resort wear.
There are 14 participating businesses, and while shopping you can enjoy a perfect mix of culture, cocktails, music, hanging out with old friends and making new ones.
