Calling all fans of java!
Coffee drinkers will gather next weekend to try and set a Guinness world record for the largest number of people drinking coffee simultaneously.
The record attempt will take place at the sea horse statue on the malecon, Saturday, December 16, 5 p.m.
The Puerto Vallarta Coffee Fest 2017 is seeking to break the record of 8,162, set in Cologne, Germany in 2009. Organizers hope more than 10,000 people will turn out to sip coffee together and set a new record.
According to chief organizer Carlos Arceo, the record will serve as a major promotional push for the resort, given that each year millions of people around the world either purchase the Guinness book, like their Facebook page or visit their website.
To facilitate access, everyone who wishes to take part is encouraged to pre-register at http://coffeefestpuertovallarta.com.

The event is co-sponsored by Puerto Vallarta city hall, the local Tourism Trust (Fideicomisio) and Nescafe, as a well as a score of smaller benefactors.
Participants are advised to put on comfortable clothes, refrain from wearing articles of value, keep pets at home and arrive an hour before the scheduled start of the event. Children are welcome to take part. There is no charge.
River of Arte
The 2017 River of Arte exhibit and sale takes place this year at La Cuiza on the Isla Rio Cuale Sunday, December 10, from noon to 5 p.m.
In addition to a show featuring the work of around 60 local artists “representing the best of the Vallarta art scene,” there will be a silent auction and live entertainment from folk singer Brittany Kingery and the Ballet Folklórico Infantil del Jorullo.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Discapacitados de Vallarta (DIVAC), an association of handicapped individuals dedicated to helping one another lead productive lives; Las Animas Dog Rescue Association (LADRA), a charity set up in 2012 by Brischa and Ted Borchgrevink to provide care, shelter and rehabilitation to dogs rescued in the Puerto Vallarta area and to match them with adoptive families and the aforementioned folk dance troupe.
Entry is free of charge.

Welcome Finns!
The cold climes of Finland may seem like another world away from sun-drenched Puerto Vallarta, but the two destinations are now inextricably linked.
The first ever Finnair flight to Mexico touched down at the Vallarta airport late last month with 297 passengers aboard, keen to start an early winter vacation here.
The 12-hour Airbus A350 flight set a record for the longest direct Finnair flight completed in the airline’s history.
The surprised holiday makers were greeted at the local airport with a mariachi band, tequila and souvenirs.
The flights will operate weekly through March 19, 2018, bringing in 5,300 Scandinavian and Russian vacationeers, at a cost of between 400 and 700 Euros per trip, according to Tourism Trust (Fideicomisio) Promotions Director Luis Villaseñor.
Seasonal Saturday Markets
Puerto Vallarta offers a choice of three Saturday farmers’ and artisan markets to enjoy.
The granddaddy of the three is unquestionably the renamed Old Town Farmers Market that occupies Parque Lazaro Cardenas (at Venustiano Carranza and Pino Suárez) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Here, you’ll find around 100 stalls offering an extensive variety of local produce and arts and crafts from friendly and non-pushy vendors.
The food area offers a multiple choice of cuisine, including Mexican and American favorites. And musical entertainment is always provided by a talented selection of local entertainers.
Los Mangos Bibiloteca Farmer’s Market features a broad variety of locally-created products, including organic produce, jewelry, clothing, pa stries and homemade international food. It houses between 35 to 40 vendors who sell their merchandize between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the library’s spacious garden, at Av. Francisco Villa 1001.
According to the library’s website, new this year are plants from the region, t-shirts with locally-created designs, healthy cookies and some first-time pastry and clothing vendors.
