Letters to the Editor – June 27, 2015

Dear Sir,

On behalf of the Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM), I would like to thank Christopher Wilshere and the Organizers of the Scotiabank Northern Lights Festival for the support offered to our institution during the Festival in February as well as in previous years.  We truly appreciate the repair and maintenance of our students’ musical instruments, the master classes and the access to the festival’s concerts, all free of charge, in addition to the donation of 41,021 pesos granted by Lake Chapala Music Productions.

As you may know, CREM is a non-profit organization, which aims at making music education available to all children and teenagers Lakeside.   Your attentions to our students as well as your generous contributions bring us closer to that goal, which seeks not only to benefit the students, but to raise culture in their families and, as a consequence, at Lakeside as a whole.

The opportunity of closely watching professional musicians performing, not to mention to learn directly from them, is inspiring, encouraging and incredibly positive for both CREM’s students and music teachers.  The funds you have granted to this institution will be designated to the improvement of the rooms used by CREM and the space where the grand piano is kept at the Auditorio de la Ribera in order to offer a proper learning environment, suitable for music teaching.

Emmanuel Medeles Medina, director

Dear Sir,
I would like to thank all those who have responded with concern to my letter regarding the assault I experienced on June 13.
I would also like to clarify that the person who assaulted me was an English-speaking foreigner approximately 5’10” to 6 feet tall, medium build, fair hair, wearing shorts and a lycra T-shirt of light green. He was riding a big expensive motorcycle (not a Harley), black and silver, plates 1GLUT (last number I did not see).
Thank you for your help.
Name withheld by request

Dear Sir,
What is your commentary on Donald Trump about? I don’t read the paper for your opinions on U.S. politics. Besides, conservatives could be equally critical of Bernie Sanders but hold their tongues. Perhaps you should do so.
Thomas Gates

Editor’s note: Trump’s negative focus on Mexico made the piece highly relevant in our view.
