Letters to the Editor - December 2, 2017

Dear Sir,

Re: “Cardinal blames victims of femicide for their own demise,” the Reporter, November 25-December 1.

Whenever a public figure says something outlandish or outrageous, nine times out of 10 the speaker is the current U.S. president.

So it was a “refreshing” change to discover that other notables are likewise capable to matching him in that regard. Certainly, the archbishop of Guadalajara, Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez, did so when he suggested that women fatally victimized by criminal assaults had themselves to blame for it, owing to their “imprudence.”

His Eminence comes off sounding like a diehard patriarchal misogynist, ready to cast the first stone.
