Letter To The Editor - December 12, 2020

Dear Sir,

As in previous years, the Angel Tree will be set up in Barra de Navidad from December 14, in the restaurant corridor by the downtown Catholic Church.

The concept is simple. Anybody wanting to buy a gift for the less fortunate at Christmas time can visit the tree and “purchase” an ornament with a specific need identified in the community.

This giving project has been a roaring success since its inception. Not only do children and adults receive a gift at Christmas or on Three Kings Day, but any money left over each year provides medical support (medicines, travel funds, doctor’s visits) for the most vulnerable in the community.

Volunteers will staff the tree nightly from 7 to 9 p.m. through December 24. The project this year is spearheaded by Jayne Bellrose.

The committee acknowledges that half of the usual “giving angels” are not in Barra this season because of the Covid pandemic. Therefore donations will also be accepted via paypal to This email address is being protected from spambots. We are excited to make this year spectacular even in the midst of Covid!  It takes a village and we so appreciate each of you Angels.
