Letters To The Editor

Dear Sir,

As executive director of the Lake Chapala Society since 2010, I have often remarked to others that the absolute worst part of my job is dealing with the death of the people I get to know as a result of my job. It affects me.

Earlier this year, several deaths occurred that involved single people living alone. What happens when the body is found? I’m not going to go into the legal protocols here. My interest lies in what occurs in the first 24 hours from a personal point of view.

Letters To The Editor

Dear Sir,

Last week with the first nightly rainstorm of the season, one of those grand 40-foot heritage trees that grew near the Lake on the Ajijic beach fell. The winds of the storm were especially strong that night, and I think most people figured that was what caused the tree to fall.

Letters To The Editor

Dear Sir,

Thank God the Mexican Federal sound law is getting enforced in Guadalajara (Reporter, June 3-9, 2017).

As a person who has lived in the center of the “Zona del Ruido” of Ajijic, and who also has had nearly 20 years of professional experience using sound amplification equipment, I wish to share my point of view:

Letters To The Editor - April 29, 2017

Dear Sir,

Regarding the article, “Expats must safeguard visa status when leaving Mexico (April 22, 2017), could someone explain this to me please?

I hate to sound so dumb, but are you really telling me that I can jump through all the necessary hoops, pay my money, get my card, and have it for many years, and some customs official at the airport can accidentally check the wrong box and reverse all that? And I’m basically screwed?

How is this possible! What am I not getting here? A “seemingly minor clerical error”?  WTFajita ... and it’s totally my responsibility to argue with the official because I detached “the lower portion of the form”? Have you ever tried arguing with an airport official?  It doesn’t work!

I love Mexico.  I’ve been here for 13 years, but its bureaucracy continues to boggle my mind. I am going on a trip in November and I am so not looking forward to this extra stress in flying. Flying has become stressful enough.
