Chivas earn first point under new coach

Guadalajara Chivas gained their first point of the Clausura 2012 as new coach Ignacio Ambriz presided over a goalless draw with UNAM Pumas in Mexico City on Sunday.

The former coach of San Luis, Ambriz was appointed manager of Chivas on Thursday. His predecessor Fernando Quirarte resigned the week before as the club endured its worst ever start to a season.

Sunday’s draw represents a modest upturn in form after Chivas began the year with an unprecedented three straight losses.

Atlas’ fortunes also improved as they earned their first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Toluca, while local relegation rivals Estudiantes Tecos suffered a 2-1 defeat to champions Tigres.

Chivas and Tecos remain in the bottom two with a point apiece, while Atlas’ win takes them up to 15th in the table with four points in total.
