Charros looking good for playoffs

If all goes well over the next month, the Charros de Jalisco are on course for a spot in the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) playoffs in January.

Despite a few ups and downs on the road, the team is only two games behind leaders Mazatlan in the eight-team league. They are, however, seven games clear of seventh place , occupied by Cañeros de Los Mochis. With six teams qualifying for the playoffs (yes that’s right, six out of eight!), only a string of poor results would see the Charros miss out on the end-of-season knockout.

Two new U.S. hitters joined the Charros roster this week to help boost their chances of qualification. Outfielders Anthony Alford (Toronto Blue Jays) and Donnie Dewees Jr. (Kansas City Royals) replaced fellow countrymen Billy Burns and Brock Stassi, who have returned home.

Meanwhile, six Charros players participated in last Monday’s LMP All-Star game. Pitchers Luis Iván Rodríguez and Iván Sálas were joined by infielders Manny Rodríguez, Amadeo Zazueta and Agustín Murillo, and outfielder Edson García,

Charros’ next home series will be against league leaders Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Tuesday, November 28 to Thursday, November 30, all at 7 p.m. After a series on the road, the Charros return home for two consecutive series (six games), Tuesday, December 5 through Sunday, December 10. Tickets are available online at charrosjalisco.com. The Charros Stadium is at Calle Sta. Lucía 373, a few blocks from the Auditorio Telmex.
