Democrats elect new board

Democrats Abroad, Lake Chapala Chapter has elected a new slate of ten officers, including  chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, and six members-at-large.

At the chapter’s bi-annual elections, new chair Larry Pihl reiterated the unique opportunity those living abroad have in helping clarify the many issues affecting the United States, while making legislators aware of  matters that members consider important. Democrats Abroad acts as the 51st state in the Democratic Party and has an active voice both in Washington and the National Democratic Convention.   Over the coming weeks the chapter will  assist all U.S. citizens living abroad to register and obtain their ballots for the upcoming election cycles.

On behalf of the new board, Pihl expressed his appreciation for the fine work of the former board lead by outgoing Chair Fran Reidelberger.

Despite the cool weather, the meeting following the elections was warm and upbeat with the attendees sharing ideas for upcoming events and meetings.

A report was heard on final plans for the upcoming annual meeting of Democrats Abroad Mexico scheduled at lakeside during the April 17-19 weekend. The event will include a reception, a guest speaker from Oklahoma, a general meeting and a musical special entitled “Hard Travlin’ with Woody” – a review of Woody Guthrie music to be held at Club Exotica on April 18, 7 p.m.
