Celebrating quince in its multiple forms

Customarily held on the second weekend of the month, Atotoniquillo’s 22nd annual Expo Membrillo (Quince Expo) is set for Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9.

The quince is considered an ancient ancestor of the apple, widely associated with matters of the heart – fertility, love and marriage.  Atotonquillo’s fiesta showcases the region’s summer quince harvest and an astonishing array of taste treats made with the fruit as a main ingredient.

These can include jellies (ate), preserves, ponche, pastries and other concoctions.  Atotoniquillo is located about 45 kilometers south east of Guadalajara, just off the highway to Ocotlan-La Barca.
