Netflix launches in Mexico

Netflix begins service in Mexico on September 12, the Internet media streaming company has announced.

The monthly subscription cost will be 99 pesos.  Members will be able to access Netflix.com in Spanish, Portuguese or English, depending on their preference.

At press time Netflix had not announced all the titles it will make available in Mexico but members here will be able to enjoy programming from CBS and Showtime, which signed a deal with Netflix in July to distribute their content in Latin America.

Netflix is the biggest provider of on-demand internet streaming media in the United States and Canada, with more than 25 million members.

Netflix launched its service in Canada in September 2010 and hit the one-million member mark in less than a year.

The launch in Mexico is part of the company’s 42-nation expansion to Latin America and the Caribbean.
