Startup Weekend set to break records

Guadalajara’s Tec de Monterrey (ITESM) university campus is set to host the largest ever  Startup Weekend in the history of the international event that started in 2007 and is now held in 135 countries.

More than 800 budding entrepreneurs are expected to participate in the 54-hour weekend event, during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening.

The Guadalajara event has been categorized into several themes to accommodate the large number of participants: Makers, FashionTech, Drones, Social Innovation, Gaming and Health.

On the first day, participants “meet, pitch and team up,” before developing the project on day two while receiving guidance from mentors and experts. The teams have five minutes on Sunday to present the product or service to the audience and a panel of experts.

The Startup Weekend begins Friday, November 13, 5 p.m in ITESM’s Salon de Congresos.
