Distant revelers likely had no idea that one of their exuberant firearm discharges would make its way back down to the earth and into the skull of 23-year-old Cesar Alberto Hernandez de la Cruz.
This makes the third time in as many years that a Guadalajara resident has been stricken by a stray bullet, usually around celebrations such as Independence Day or New Year’s. Last year, three-year-old Joshua Mercado Colmenares died from a stray bullet outside of his house, while 77-year-old Francisco Orozco Ortiz survived his own random wound in 2010.
It’s almost impossible for police to track down the culprits in these cases.
