Although some of the buildings are unfinished, the process of moving Guadalajara’s civil court infrastructure into the new Ciudad Judicial (Judicial City) complex has already started.
At least 18 of the 33 courts and more than 50 tribunals that will use the 50-million-dollar facility located on the southern Periferico could be up and running within four to six weeks, said Celso Rodriguez, president of the State Supreme Court.
Authorities hope the modern complex will reduce the resolution time of civil actions, which sometimes can stretch out over decades.
As well as the courts, the new building will house meeting rooms, a library, a legal school and an archive. The facility will also have to hold oral trials in the future.
Once the building has been completed, the privately owned existing civil court complex, next to the Teatro Degollado in downtown Guadalajara, will be used for other purposes.
