The rise in auto thefts reflects a state-wide trend. The Jalisco government had aimed to reduce the number of private vehicles stolen in 2011 to 7,300, but instead the figure rose to 9,992. The theft of commercial vehicles in 2011 also rose from 418 the previous year to 432, making a mockery of the government’s target of 365.
In total, during the current administration, 42,157 vehicles have been reported stolen in Jalisco from January 2007 to December 2011.
