Colorful candidate on the stump

National Action Party (PAN) candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota’s bid to become Mexico’s first female president has hit a series of setbacks in recent weeks. Nonetheless, a rally in Guadalajara on Sunday night drew an estimated 13,000 people, according to her campaign staff. On the downside, this was 7,000 fewer than the figure they anticipated.

In a show of party unity the following day, Vazquez Mota appeared at the Niños Heroes monument at the foot of Avenida Chapultepec, alongside Fernando Guzman, the PAN candidate for the Jalisco governorship, and former governor Alberto Cardenas, now running for mayor of Guadalajara.
