City closes famous metro-area park

“Clausurdo” signs were slapped on the gates of the Parque Rehilete Alcalde after city officials lost patience with the concession holders, who owe rent dating back to September 2009.

An embargo has been placed on an assortment of mechanical games, a children’s train and 20 rowing boats for use on the park’s small lake.   City officials say these items are in poor condition but nonetheless will be auctioned off if the debt is not settled soon.

Meanwhile, the operating license for the park has been temporarily revoked and there is scant chance that the leisure space will reopen any time soon.

The private concession to operate the park, located at Jesus Garcia and Mariano Barcena (a few blocks from La Normal Glorieta) was granted in 1996.
