It’s mid-June, so a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

According to the University of Guadalajara’s Astronomy and Meteorology Institute (IAM), the  first serious downpours of the rainy season are forecast for Tuesday, June 12, with a three-day margin of error either side of the date.

Guadalajara is already experiencing the first signs that the anxiously awaited temporada de lluvias is on hand.  To the untrained eye, increased cloud cover and stronger winds are the key indicators, says Ruben Aguirre of the IAM.

The highest temperature recorded in the metropolitan zone this week was 36.5 Celsius in Tlaquepaque on Tuesday. Elsewhere in Jalisco, in  San Cristobal, Bolaños, Bocas and Amatitan, readings of 40 to 43 Celsius haven been commonplace for several weeks.

While the first rains will bring temporary relief, temperatures will continue to rise until the summer solstice on June 20, says the IAM.  Only when the season is in full swing will the daytime temperatures in Guadalajara begin to drop significantly.
