Budget hotel opens in prime city center spot

A 146-room One Hotel has opened its doors in the rather colorless building overlooking the Plaza de Armas and Plaza Guadalajara, across from the Government and Municipal palaces and catty-corner to the Metropolitan Cathedral.

With rooms priced – for now, at least – at 499 pesos (not including taxes), the hotel offers a great financial deal for those looking for comfort and cleanliness but without frills.

A buffet breakfast is provided each morning and there is a 24-hour “food corner” on site.

The hotel also has an events salon to hold 50 people, high-speed Internet access and a laundry and ironing service.

The hotel operators, Grupo Posadas, invested five million dollars in refurbishing the somewhat rundown building, which previously contained dozens of private offices.  The renovation project took 11 months to complete and has created 100  jobs.

Guadalajara’s first One Hotel opened last year on the northern Periferico (beltway) inside the San Isidro shopping mall complex. Rates run at around 600 pesos per room (single or double).

One Hotel Centro Historico: Avenida 16 de Septiembre 16, Zona Centro, (33) 3942-4350.

One Guadalajara Periferico Norte: Av. Valle de San Isidro 530-1, Col. Bosques de San Isidro, Zapopan, (33) 3055-0000.
