Translators to be honored at Book Fair

The 100,000-dollar prize will bear the name of author, translator and poet Tomas Segovia, who died last year at the age of 84.  It will be financed jointly by the FIL, the National Council for Culture and the Arts and the Fondo de Cultura Economica publishing house.

In alternate years, the award will honor the work of translations into Spanish from another language, and vice-versa. This year’s prize will be given to a professional whose target language is Spanish.

Born in Spain, Segovia fled the Spanish Civil War to settle in Mexico in 1940.  His translations included the works of literary giants such as Shakespeare and Victor Hugo.
Nominations for the award must be submitted to the FIL by October 29.
