City airport to expand arrivals area in 2013

In response to passengers’ complaints regarding long lines and waiting times, GAP will expand the international and domestic arrivals area, install two additional baggage-reclaim belts and place more customs and immigration officials on duty, public relations director Miguel Aliaga Gargollo revealed this week.

The airport is prepared for a boom in traffic over Christmas, Aliaga said, with the number of daily passengers set to increase from 17,000 to 22,000 from next week.

GAP, which manages 11 other air terminals in Mexico, has allocated another 250 million pesos to the Guadalajara airport for 2014.

The federal Communications and Transportation Secretariat (SCT)  revealed this week that it has included around 200 million pesos in its 2013 budget for a cost-benefit analysis of acquiring land adjacent to the Guadalajara airport with the eventual aim of constructing a second runway.
