Metro-area air quality dips

Air pollution peaked at an unhealthy 172 Imeca points around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Las Pintas neighborhood located between El Salto and Tlaquepaque.

During a “Muy Mala” smog alert (two consecutive hours registered between 151-200 Imeca points) Semades recommends that residents suspend outdoor exercise, close doors and windows, and wear face masks outdoors. Children under five, the elderly, asthmatics and those with chronic respiratory problems should be especially careful.

During a “Very Bad” smog alert, people should avoid smoking and drink plenty of fluids. Those who suffer symptoms such as coughing; sore throat, eyes or nose; breathing problems; chest pain; or headaches should avoid self-medication and seek immediate medical attention.
