Zapopan's new app makes complaining a piece of cake

In a move that several other Jalisco municipalities are said to be considering, Zapopan this week launched a new smartphone application that can be used to register complaints or make suggestions about municipal services.

“Ciudapp Zapopan”enables citizens to report local problems such as potholes, illegal trash dumping, faulty street lights, broken tiles on sidewalks, deficiencies in garbage collection, illegal tree felling and advertising boards, and more.

Users may upload photos, videos and post comments.

According to Mayor Pablo Lemus, a team of 28 municipal staffers will be on hand to attend to complaints submitted on the app.

Cases will be directed into the city’s work order priority for resolution, while users will provided with feedback as how quickly their complaints will be addressed. They will also be able to follow the status of their complaint.

Lemus said citizens should use the 911 emergency number for all cases of personnel endangerment or health-related issues. However, the app can be used to request a stronger police presence in a particular neighborhood that is experiencing public disorder issues.

“Ciudapp Zapopan” is available free of charge at either Google Play or App Store.
