Democrats set reception to gauge interest in GDL chapter

Thousands of U.S. citizens reside throughout metropolitan Guadalajara, say local members of Democrats Abroad, and many of them are Democrats.

So active DA members plan a social reception that aims at assessing whether there is sufficient interest in forming a chapter of the group separate from the one at Lake Chapala.

“Dems Abroad has a chapter that encompasses both the Chapala and Guadalajara areas,” said Guadalajara resident Jude Wallesen. “This has challenges for those of us in Guad because the distances involved often make participating difficult.”

The reception is a social event, she stressed, and is slated for Sunday, April 30, 4 to 7 p.m., in the spacious home and garden of a current member in Colonia Seattle, located in the northern suburb of Zapopan not far from the Basilica de la Virgen de Zapopan. Refreshments will be served and those attending are welcome to bring partners, spouses and prospective members.

“We’ll take a few minutes during the reception to explore the feasibility of setting up a Guadalajara chapter,” said Wallesen. “But really it’s a chance to have fun, catch up on what Democrats Abroad are doing, reconnect with old friends or make new ones.”
