LAST CALL. Tuesday, May 2 is the final day for owners of Mexican-plated cars in Jalisco to obtain their annual car registration (refrendo) at a discount.
Up until May 3, the cost will be 456 pesos; after this date the fee goes up to 507 pesos. In addition, late payment charges will be added as the weeks go by. Payments can be made at state tax collection centers (recaudadoras) between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All you need is the vehicle’s license plate number.
DEADLY QUARREL. An extraordinary knife fight between two 80-year-old siblings has left both women dead. Sources in the Jalisco town of San Martín Hidalgo say neighbors discovered the sisters, aged 89 and 84, bleeding to death on the floor of their shared home following an argument.
IN CUSTODY. Jalisco State Police have arrested a hit man they say probably killed more than 50 people. Víctor “N” “El Morral” is believed to have instrumented an attack in the Colli neighborhood of Zapopan in 2010 that left eight people dead. Investigators say he also took part in a mass execution in 2011, when the headless corpses of two dozen people were dumped by the yellow Millennium Arches.
