The first section of the new pedestrian zone on downtown Guadalajara’s Avendia Alcalde between calles Hospital and Jesus Garcia is almost complete and is expected to open some time next month,
with only trees, benches and electrical installations pending.
The revamp has been a financial disaster for stores along the five-block stretch, and the few that have remained open have only done so because the owners have dispensed with the services of staff and attended to the businesses themselves.
