Danish CEO lauds city’s educated workforce

Danish electronics manufacturing company GPV this week kicked off operations in Guadalajara, another sign that Jalisco is serious about broadening its international profile where direct investment is concerned – i.e. away from the United States.

With an initial investment of $US7.5 million, the company’s new plant in Zapopan’s Pinar Empresarial industrial park is expected to create 350 jobs by 2020.

GPV specializes in the production of advanced mechatronics products – a combination of electronics and mechanics. A large percentage of the components and finished goods made in Guadalajara will be destined for the United States.

“We have not come to Mexico to get cheap labour,” GPV CEO Bo Lybæk said at the inauguration. “We have come because of the good location, attractive framework conditions for companies and not least due to the easy access to many skilled and well-educated people.”

According to its website, GPV develops “customized solutions in low and medium volumes with a high degree of flexibility … roughly 4,500 products of various types for about 300 international customers within the clean tech, instruments, medical and marine and defense sectors.”

GPV’s turnover last year was $US140 million, a figure that Lybæk expects to increase significantly over the next few years.
