Famous Canine to be honored with bronze statue

Local sculptor Marco Antonio Jasso will soon debut a new work honoring “Frida,” the search-and-rescue dog that shot to international fame following the September 7 and 19 earthquakes in central Mexico.

The sculpture will be unveiled on December 14 as the centerpiece of a park under construction across from the planned site of the new U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara, in Colonia Monraz, at the intersection of Manuel Acuna and Aztecas.

The bronze sculpture, crafted from more than five tons of donated keys, will measure 2.50 meters in height and weigh 300 kilograms. Famed Frida’s actual height is 70 centimeters, and her weight is less than ten kilos.
