Charities, benefactor honored for service

The Jalisco Social Assistance Institute (IJAS) has handed out its annual recognition awards to two charities and one benefactor, each receiving 300,000 pesos.

IJAS, the regulating body for all non-profits (A.C.’s) in Jalisco, gave their accolades to Los Inocentes de Maria (Premio Institucion Guadalajara), Casa Hogar Rostros del Padre (Premio Institucion Regional) and Hilario Morales Guzman (Premio Benefactor Social).

Los Inocentes de Maria is a 13-year-old religious-based charity that provides residents of economically challenged neighborhoods with food parcels, advice on violence prevention, dignified burials and Christmas gifts and cheer. They also offer help to indigenous migrants passing through the metropolitan area. The award was collected by Brenda del Rio Machin.

Casa Hogar Rostros del Padre in the small Jalisco town of San Marcos, ten miles west of Etzatlan, provides shelter to orphans, and neglected and abused children.  The charity was registered with IJAS in 2014 and, according to the IJAS website, caters to nine children. The award was collected by William and Kate Cooks.

Morales Guzman was chosen for the benefactor award for his work with recovering drug addicts through the Fundacion Emmanuel in Guadalajara.
